Calcium carbonate or powdered limestone can be used to prepare acid-soluble cement for use in oil and gas wells.
Cementing Additives
Specialty Additives
THIX-L is a thixotropic additive for all types of oil well cement. It offers an economical alternative, in an economical liquid form, to gypsum in this application. THIX-L is a moderately accelerator for cement and may required the use of retardes at BHCT over 100° F
THIX-P is a powdered thixotropic additive for all types of oil well cement. It offers an economical alternative to gypsum in this application. THIX-P is a moderately accelerator for cement and may required the use of retardes at BHCT over 100° F
OWS-16 is a surfactant designed to allow mixing of cement slurries in diesel oil. These slurries will not set until contacted by water, and so can be used in a variety of remedial work in oil and gas wells.
Hematite is used as an additive for preparing heavyweight cement slurries, to 18 lb/gal or more. It is typically used in Class G or Class H cements, but is compatible with all API Classes.
HSR-MC is a form of cement with a particle size about one- tenth that of API oilwell cements. This small size makes it very useful for sealing small leaks, a job that can be difficult with conventional cement squeezes.
Non-Sticion is a powdered additive intended to reduce “static cling” encountered in pneumatic conveying of cement blends, pozzolan or silica fume, frac sand, resin-coated proppants, and similar materials. It can provide improved conveying of these materials by reducing blockages and “wormholing” in bins.
Silica Flour is used in oilwell cement whenever the cement will be exposed to temperatures of 230⁰F or higher. It prevents the loss of strength, or retrogression, that oilwell cement would otherwise experience at these temperatures.
GL-Resin is a special epoxy resin tailored for oil well applications. It is a versatile, non-shrinking, exothermic reaction resin that is formulated for temperatures ranging from 60°F to 300°F. This resin system is applicable for well recompletion, loss circulation, wellbore-stabilization, P&A, workover completion, and provides an impermeable seal through and around cement plugs. GL-Resin provides an impermeable seal for micro leaks of gas through and around cement plugs and packers. It has successfully been used to shut off gas for abandonment, to seal leaking packers, for water shut-off, and to plug and abandon damaged wells. GL-Resin can have compressive strengths in excess of 8500 psi but still be easily drilled. Do to non-shrinkage upon setting, ultra-high shear bond strengths can be observed in excess of 2000 psi. With the addition of a weighting agent, generally Barite, the density of the resin system can be tailored from 9.0 to 19.0 lb/gal.
S-34L is a liquid anionic surfactant used to stabilize GMA-34L (Liquid Latex) at high temperatures. Failure to use S-34L in conjunction with GMA-34L may lead to increased viscosities and flocculation. Flocculation can cause solids to settle and show up as early pump offs.
